For the best dreamy, Creamy Mashed Potatoes, look no more! This incredible, melt-in-your-mouth recipe is the perfect holiday side dish!
Everybody’s favorite Creamy Mashed Potatoes aren’t just for Thanksgiving and Christmas! If you’re like me and LOVE warm, delicious comfort food, you will enjoy this remarkable recipe all year long! And not to toot my own horn, but these mashed potatoes (featuring Yukon gold potatoes, butter, cream & Gruyere cheese, with garlic and chives for incredible flavor) are sure to be a total crowd pleaser!
The trick to making AMAZING mashed potatoes is not to overwork them! Most people use a traditional masher which breaks down the starch in the potatoes, leaving them sticky and heavy. That’s why I always use this easy potato ricer! Trust meeee! Upscale restaurants know that nothing compares to this simple gadget. The potato ricer shreds instead of mashes, giving you fluffy, airy, perfectly creamy potatoes every time!

TIPS for Great Mashed Potatoes
- Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes make the best mashed potatoes.
- Start your potatoes in cold, generously salted water
- Do NOT overcook the potatoes
- Use this potato ricer instead of a masher for outstanding results
- Warm the cream and butter before adding into the potatoes
How Long Should You Boil Potatoes Before Mashing?
The amount of time it takes to boil potatoes for mashed potatoes depends on their size. While large, whole potatoes will cook in about 40 minutes, if you cut them into 2” chunks they will cook evenly and completely in less than 15 minutes! Always start with cold, generously salted water and remember not to overcook – longer is not better!
Can You Freeze Leftover Mashed Potatoes?
Absolutely! The high dairy content means they will freeze well – sealed airtight – for up to 3 months. When ready to use, simply thaw overnight in the refrigerator, add a little milk or cream, and warm in the oven, on the stove top or in the microwave (make sure to use a pan or bowl that’s safe for the method you choose.)
