Few Important Tips
- Let this dip chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours or even overnight for the best dip! It really is the perfect “prep-ahead” app! Grab a bag of tortilla chips or veggies and enjoy!
- Trader Joes Taco Seasoning is my favorite! It has the most spice and flavor, but 3-4
tablespoons (or more!) of any taco seasoning you like will work just fine! - Spread this dip in a large (about 9×13) size dish or pan so the ratio of base to toppings is just right!
Here’s Everything I Do to Prep in Advance
Make hosting easier with my go-to prep list! From chopping and marinating to make-ahead sauces and sides, here’s exactly how I streamline cooking days ahead of time.
- Peeling and chopping the garlic – I love my Cuisinart Mini Food Processor for this! You can even freeze minced garlic in ice cube trays. I love these ice cube trays with lids!
- Chopping the onion and zucchini and store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. I love the Rubbermaid Brilliance Containers because they keep the oniony/garlicky smell enclosed and out of my fridge
- Chopping all my veggies beforehand – My Pro Chopper is a lifesaver
What Are the Ingredients in Classic Taco Dip?
The foundation of a classic cold Mexican Taco Dip starts with blended ingredients like sour cream, cream cheese and taco seasoning. Some variations include refried beans or even cooked ground beef or turkey. The dip is then topped with taco favorites like shredded cheese and lettuce, diced green onion, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers, salsa, olives, etc. This game day favorite dip is then eaten with tortilla chips.
Can I Make Taco Dip Ahead of Time?
This is truly the perfect make-ahead appetizer recipe! It only takes a couple of minutes to blend the 3-ingredient dip together, then you can refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before serving! The toppings can be chopped in advance as well and stored in individual baggies or containers in the fridge. Super simple and scrumptious!
